PSI is the state’s largest full-service shipyard,
located on seven acres in Honolulu Harbor at Pier 24, including two dry docks.

PSI staffs a department of engineers who are fully-capable to diagnose, evaluate, and perform technical recommendations on new construction, repair, and conversion projects. Combined with over 80 years of professional engineering experience and an in-house licensed Professional Engineer, PSI’s engineering department has the capabilities to perform highly complex ship repair and conversion as demonstrated by multiple maintenance and modernization availabilities awarded as a prime contractor.

Assigning a Project Manager for each availability and utilizing a strong matrix organizational structure allows PSI to capitalize on an agile work environment characterized by responsive and visible performance, connected information flows, and proactive resolutions with fast decision making. PSI’s leadership ensures that each assigned Project Manager has recognized authority and responsibility over the entire project.

PSI’s electrical department consists of certified electricians capable of performing a broad array of services, ranging from general connect and disconnect services to full shipboard electrical and power installations.

PSI’s marine pipefitters department offer the ability to create complex and custom pipe layouts, including design, creation, and installation. Fabrication at our weld shop is followed by rigorous flushing and hydrostatic testing at our machine shop. PSI’s portfolio of fabrication capabilities expands year after year. We have state-of-the-art CNC mandrel bending and hydrostatic testing equipment, including a 4.50” pipe and tube bending machine — the only one of its kind in the state of Hawaiʻi.

PSI’s paint department combines an extensive equipment inventory with a highly skilled labor force and industry-leading technology for results that exceed expectations. Our facilities include a blasting booth and two painting booths, along with 10,320 square feet of enclosed and climate-controlled buildings for abrasive blasting and paint application. The painting and preservation facilities house a cutting-edge robotic ultra-high pressure (UHP) hydro-blasting and portable water jetting which reaches the highest operating pressures available in the state at 55,000 psi.

PSI’s welding and fabrication shop is staffed by Hawaiʻi’s foremost fabrication experts, including ABS, NAVSEA, ASME, and Coast Guard certified welders. Together, this highly trained staff is qualified for a range of alloys, including aluminum, stainless steel, copper-nickel, high tensile, and ABS/NAVSEA certified wire feed welding. PSI is licensed in the State of Hawaiʻi to perform welding (C56) and structural fabrication (C48), as well as certified for welding by ABS, NAVSEA, and AWS.

PSI’s full-service machine shop and its skilled workers stand ready to perform services such as valve repair, pump overhauls, drilling, boring, and shaft and gasket fabrication. PSI has state-of-the-art valve testing equipment, including a universal flange valve test rig, allowing PSI to perform in-house valve pressure testing.

PSI embraces a ‘Safety First, Last, and Always’ commitment. Working safely is a non-negotiable PSI core value and is ingrained in our culture as a prerequisite for accomplishing work. Every employee is responsible for maintaining a safe work environment and for contributing to the safety of others. The PSI Environmental, Health & Safety (EHS) Manager develops standards, processes, and controls to provide for a safe work environment across all projects and operations. EHS Technicians promote safety and ensure compliance to EHS requirements on assigned projects. Our plans, policies, and procedures protect the life and health of every employee, the general public, and the environment.

Led by a certified NDT Level III Inspector, our QA team is an integral part of every project. PSI’s NDT group is certified in the following weld inspection methods: Visual Inspection (VT), Magnetic Particle Inspection (MT), Liquid Penetrant Inspection (PT) , UT Thickness Readings (UTT), Shear Wave Inspection (UT), Shear Wave Inspections for 5000 Series Aluminum, Non-Destructive Testing (NDT). PSI has on-site trainers that have successfully trained welders to advanced welding processes and new welders in the fundamentals of shipboard welding in accordance with ABS, NAVSEA, and USCG standards. The NDT department trains and tests welders on critical welds to continuously improve PSI’s capabilities. A Level III Test Examiner performs annual training with all Level II inspectors and administers their initial NDT exams.
